Whoa! It is just about June. I just came out of the Memorial Day weekend after spending some time in the mountains. It is amazing how the mountains can create a sense of awe, peace and rest.
I hope you spent some time with family and friends over the holiday and got some peace and rest. We all seem to be running on fumes these days. (Some self-inflicted, some not.)
It has been a busy spring and with summer around the corner (although the weather could cooperate more), it is time to get back on the trail of the Truth, Hope, Adventure Tour.
This month’s theme is relationships – Family and Friends. Relationships can bring great joy but also grief into our lives.
How we manage our relationships, nurture and feed them, often determines how good we feel about our lives overall. We all know bad relationships can make for bad days, weeks and months.
What if I told you, the only investment needed to live a good life is in your relationships? Not your career, not chasing the almighty dollar, not becoming famous.
Would you believe that? This wisdom is as old as the hills. We all know that strong, healthy relationships, keep us healthy and happy. They keep us mentally engaged and even during tough times, keep us balanced with the proper amount of perspective on life. When you can count on your relationships, your family and friends, it tends to take a load off.
Our work, our busyness, our commitments, get in the way of truly nurturing our most valued relationships, especially with family and friends.
It takes effort, commitment, teeth gnashing at times, but most of all, it takes time.
Time to make that call.
Time to plan that event.
Time for impromptu gatherings.
Time to listen.
Time to connect.
Time to catch up.
I guess you could say, I have a reputation for staying connected. It is just part of who I am and what I value. I don’t do it perfectly, but over the years, it has been a staple in my life. It was not always that way. I, too, was once consumed with a career and chasing what the world demanded, instead of what we as humans have always needed.
I feel fortunate to have friends and family I can count on and this spring there has been no shortage of opportunities to connect, laugh, catch up and well, just be.
You can see a sampling below of some of the connections I have been able to make this spring. I feel very fortunate.
Does it take a commitment? Yes
Does it take time? Yes
Is it always easy? No
Is it worth it? Yes
